Shardlow & Great Wilne Parish Council Serving the people of Shardlow & Great Wilne

Across Shardlow and Great Wilne from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022, a tremendous effort was made by many local community groups to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

We started on Thursday 2nd June with the lighting of the beacon at Shardlow St James Church. St James' PCC provided refreshments, supported by the Parish Council.

The Parish Council Vice Chairman, Martyn Clifton, had made arrangements with a local farmer to ensure the beacon was structurally safe, and filled in preparation for lighting in line with national arrangements.

The beacon drew a large crowd and was a spectacular sight to see across Shardlow & Great Wilne.

Celebrations continued on Friday 3rd June with an extended Music on The Green at Shardlow Village Hall playing fields.

A curtain side wagon was delivered in the small hours of Friday morning, ahead of the bands playing Friday evening.

A bus bar also arrived on site ready to refresh the crowds throughout the day.

Stage for the band and the bus bar arrived nice and early ready for the fun day ahead.

The weekend also saw many street parties being held around the villages, again supported by the Parish Council. Fun was had by all.

On Sunday 5th June a duck race was hosted by Shardlow Primary School PTA and Shardlow & Great Wilne Neighbourhood Watch.

Many other activities were held over the weekend including an outdoor theatre at the Clock Warehouse, live music in many of the local pubs and cream teas served by Florentine Coffee Shop.
